RANDWICK MASTERPLAN - NEW PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE RE-DEVELOPMENT- STAGE ONE COMMENCES 18 MARCH 2008
PARKING AND ACCESS IMPACT TO STAFF
The first phase of Stage One of the Royal Randwick Master Plan redevelopment involves the preparation of the Randwick site for the handover to the World Youth Day (WYD) organisers on 15 June. After almost three years of detailed planning, the initial construction component at Randwick is to commence next week on Tuesday 18 March.
We are about to appoint (subject to contract) a preferred contractor for these works. Pending contractual finalization, the builder will begin on site next Tuesday 18 March.
The area to be immediately affected will be the existing race day stalls “back of house” area between the stalls and Alison Road. Until 14 June, the builder will have sole occupancy of the entire area east of the Administration Building, all the way to the 2000 metre entry gates, except on race days when the normal equine operation will take place. This means that as of next week…
- On all non-race days, this area will be a “strictly no access” zone for all AJC staff, customers and contractors .
- On all AJC race days the area will be used as it is at the moment for the transport and stabling of race day horses and floats. The builder will contract their presence back to the eastern end of the Administration building on race days.
This will mean that all NSW Racing Industry Betting Auditorium customer parking will now be directed to the western side of the Members Drive, seven days a week. AJC Customer parking will remain on the eastern side of the Drive in designated “Customer” spaces as currently designated.
This means that all AJC Administration Office staff will now be required to park in the area adjacent to the Racecourse Manager’s Office, bounded by Doncaster Avenue at Gate 19. This is basically a similar arrangement to staff midweek race day parking.
We appreciate that these arrangements will cause some inconvenience to our staff and Auditorium customers, however we are sure that you will appreciate that this is an exciting new era for the AJC. Royal Randwick will likely be affected by construction work for several years and the disruption that comes with consistent new construction will need to be carefully managed.
We will be dependant on your individual and collective support and understanding in the years to come.
